New Roots is located at Walhalla Farm in the beautiful Schoharie Valley in upstate New York. Walhalla is a trans and queer owned family farm. Check out our beautiful spaces here!

A New Roots Residency is a week-long, fully funded artist retreat at Walhalla Farm in the company of other LGBTQIA+2S artists and staff. Every resident has a private bedroom. We cover all meals, as well as travel to and from NYC. Artists also receive an additional stipend for the week.

Our simple application requires the following: a personal bio, a resume/cv, and a writing sample (max. of 25 pages).

New Roots covers travel for artists from NYC to Walhalla Farm. Artists take a beautiful 2-hour train ride from Penn Station up to Hudson, NY. Once there, a staff member drives residents to Walhalla Farm. In total the journey is about 2 hours 40 minutes.
